Sleep deprivation on.. Infertility

Trying for a baby? Quality sleep (after sexy time) is your ticket to family land.
And here’s why:

Clinical investigations into fertility and sleep shows sperm is 600% healthier in men who get 7.5-8 hours sleep, rather than >7 hours.
Similarly, getting to bed before 1030 rather than before 11:30 was found to cause a 275% increase in sperm healthiness.
This is attributed to a range of factors linked to sleep loss: lack of energy, higher stress levels,
poor sex drive and lower testosterone levels (below).

Specifically, studies show testosterone decreases by 10-15% when men sleep 5 hours instead of 8 hours.
While this may not seem significant, this is the same as the man ageing 10-15 years; as testosterone typically decreases 1% with age after 30.
Alongside infertility, this contributes to fatigue, low libido, lowered motivation, lowered physical strength / stamina,
decreased muscle mass and an increase in fat.

For females - research demonstrates insomniac women are 400% more likely to suffer infertility problems, compared to non-insomniacs.
Partially due to the changes in the hormone FSH - which usually prompts ovaries to grow.
Clinical studies show a 20% decrease in FSH for women sleeping less than 8 hours.

Menstrual irregularity and PCOS are more likely too: evidence highlights abnormal sleep can disrupt progesterone, FSH and LH -
the hormones to regulate menstruation.

And if you’re going through IVF:
sleep 7-8 hours per night and you have the best chance of conceiving.
Women who sleep this length have a 10% greater likelihood of falling pregnant than women who sleep 9+ hours,
and 7% more than women who sleep less than 7 hours - as noted in this clinical paper.
